Goal of the CBMMM
Goal of the Canadian Band & Musical Memorabilia Museum
The goal of the CBMMM is to record and preserve the accomplishments and
achievements of Canada's Band Heritage & Musical Memorabilia both past and
present for future generations. To collect, preserve and tell the stories of
Canadian bands and their accomplishments to everyone.
About CBMA
CBMMM encourages you to explore Canada's fascinating band history, to share
your stories, research people, organizations and events, eventually experience
exhibitions, and advance your understanding of local and national bands,
musical figures, and musical history. The Museum & Archives will soon preserve
historically valuable community records and artifacts; it will be making them
meaningful and accessible to the public by organizing exhibitions, delivering
educational programs, caring for collections, and providing access to archival
information.
CBMMM History
The CBMMM was founded in 2011 as the Canadian Band Museum & Archives. In
2012 its scope was widened to include Musical Memorabilia. Since 1987 the
Archive section consisted of a substantial photo collection and historical
research material on Arthur W. Delamont and his Kitsilano Boys' Band. In the
future the CBMA will be governed by the Canadian Band Museum & Musical
Memorabilia Commission.
CBMMM Profile
The Commission will eventually employ CBMMM staff members, fulfill a
governance role and provide strategic direction to CBMMM. According to its
founding by-laws, the Museum & Archives will soon act as the “sole custodian of
the National cultural, archival and museum band collections.” The Museum
collects and preserves aspects of the material culture of Canada's Bands and
cares for all historic artifacts of local and regional importance owned by the
museum. The Archives collects, preserves, and provides access to the
documentary heritage of Canadian Bands, including an extensive photo
collection, as well as private records, archival documents, and memorabilia that
document the lives and experiences of musicians, military, religious and
community musical organizations.
Partners and Supporters
CBMMM regularly works with other community/musical organizations, including
the RCMP Museum, the Salvation Army Museum, British Brass Band Federation,
School Districts, Military Museums, First Nations' Education Departments, Public
Libraries and Preservation Societies.
Funding
Once the museum is set up, the Canadian Band & Musical Memorabilia Museum
Commission will seek operating support from cities, Districts, and a provincial
Government. Special project funding will be sought out from other sources such
as the federal Department of Canadian Heritage, Young Canada Works, and
Service Canada. Until that time the museum will operate as a vitual museum
while building its collection.
