Book Description

The story of Arthur Delamont touches many people. It is about the famous and the
not so famous. The young and the old. It is about four generations of boys who
became men. It is about four generations of men who never forgot how to be
boys..... It is the story about the band which never grew old. A band that won over
200 trophies and awards during an unprecedented 50 year history. A band that
made 15 European tours and attended 5 world fairs. A band that dined with royalty
but never lost the common touch.
As one Vancouver columnist wrote: "Woodwinds, Brass and Glory", a
Vancouver institution, more famous in Europe than in Canada. When
Arthur Delamont died in 1982 at the age of 90, the band died with him. He
had not groomed a successor. He had not wanted his band to go on
    without him.......

Jack of the Empress: As a young man of 22 Arthur  was on his way to
England on the trip of a lifetime. He and his brother Leonard had been
chosen to represent Moose Jaw and play in the famous Territorial Staff
Band of the Salvation Army. He would have looked and acted very much
like Jack the hero of James Cameron's Titanic saga. The big difference
was he survived and went on to found a 50 year musical dynasty  in
Vancouver that continues to this day. This is his story! I like to think that
what drove him was a desire to show what could have been accomplished
many times over by those who had perished on the Empress of Ireland if
    they had survived.
