We welcome new members of all abilities

Join us at our weekly workouts in Stanley
Park and on the track at Eric Hamber School

We support the Vancouver running
community by organizing three annual races
which have become local classics.

An important part of our club culture is
participation in relay races. These provide the
opportunity for our members of all levels to
travel and compete together.

Perched at the top of a hill that slopes down
to the heart of the City, the Vancouver East
Cultural Centre has always been a gathering
place. This once-abandoned church has
developed into a national treasure and BC's
most diverse performance space.

Built in 1909, the Grandview Methodist
Church boasted a congregation of over 800
by 1925, in what was Vancouver's most
populous residential area. Changing
demographics in post-war Vancouver led to a
decline in church membership, with the
United Church turning the building over to
Inner City Services in 1968. The Vancouver
Free University shared the space with
storefront lawyers: many of these tenants
became major players in the Vancouver of
the 1970s and 80s.

The City of Vancouver's former director of
Social Planning Max Beck recalls playing the
old copper church organ. Mike Harcourt shot
baskets through an old hoop. Inner City
vacated in the early 1970's and Chris
Wooten, an "Opportunities for Youth Arts"
project officer, began working with the
assistance of Darlene Marzari, Jonathan
Baker and Gary Lauk to secure a future for
the building.

What’s a Snow Show without great
entertainment? For 2005 we’ve got it all –
action, adventure, great deals and some of
the biggest names in the business!

Meet Legendary adventure filmmaker Warren
Miller!

A true pioneer of radical sports filmmaking,
Warren Miller has been thrilling audiences
for more than 55 years.

From his first feature film, produced on a
shoestring budget of $500, through to his
million-dollar-plus current epics, Warren
Miller loves to capture his favourite “weekend
sports” - skiing, snowboarding, sailing and
windsurfing - on film, continuing a tradition
that has brought him worldwide recognition.

Once described by an L.A. Times columnist
as a “combination of Jean-Claude Killy,
Robert Redford, Ingmar Bergman and Woody
Allen” his films consistently play to standing-
room-only crowds in more than 500 cities
throughout North America, Europe, Australia
and New Zealand.
Started in 1977, the Hellenic
Community's Annual Greek Food
Festival has become a popular
event in the City of Vancouver. For 3
days, the Hellenic Community
Centre is transformed into a large
"glendi" or party with great food,
music and entertainment.

Preparations for the festival start
months in advance with all
members of our Community coming
together to put on this great
production. The Ladies of our
Philoptochos Auxiliary bake over
25,000 deserts and pastries for the
event which are sold in our Kafenio
and our Bakery.
The Park Board, in existence since 1886, and its staff of up to 2000 people,
covering the gamut of crafts, trades and professions, is responsible for
providing services and programs to diverse communities across the city of
Vancouver. We are involved in a multitude of activities and relationships with
business partners, other city departments, residents and community groups.

Read about who we are, how we are organized, our history, what we are doing
now and our plans for the future. Check out programs, plans, job opportunities,
publications; find out about arts programs, team sports or special events. Plan
activities, find locations, get involved!
